PJM Peak Day Alert – Tuesday, July 7, 2020

Behind PJM, which is an Independent System Operator (ISO), it is recommended that you reduce your electricity usage today between 3:00 pm EST to 7:00 pm EST.

PJM is the interconnection that coordinates the movement of wholesale electricity throughout much of the Mid-Atlantic.  It also calculates a consumer’s 2020 capacity charges by analyzing their demand (kW) over the five highest peak hours of the summer months.  We won’t know which five hours are used in calculating a consumer’s capacity charges until after September 30, 2020, which is when PJM looks back to make the determination.

Reducing your electricity usage on peak days may help your business save money on future electricity charges.

The forecasted peak demand for today, Tuesday, July 7, 2020, is 140,343 megawatts.

Yesterday, Monday, July 6, 2020, was also a peak demand alert day.  The peak was 142,140 megawatts.  This currently is the highest peak demand PJM has seen to date.
