Welcome to this month’s Monthly Minute with Muirfield.

The topic for this month is sustainability. The word sustainability is being used more often than ever before. Another way to explain sustainability is the ability to meet our current energy needs without compromising the ability for future generations to meet their own energy needs. The environmental component of sustainability incorporates natural resources, climate change, renewable energy, and related fields.

Before we move on, let’s stop and talk about renewable energy. Renewable energy is energy from a source that is not depleted when used, such as solar power and wind power. An interesting fact that I learned about renewable energy is that renewable energy forms, with the exception of geothermal and tidal power, ultimately come from the sun. Capturing renewable energy by plants, animals, and humans does not permanently deplete the resource. However, fossil fuels, which include coal, while theoretically renewable on a very long time scale, are being exploited at rates that may deplete these resources in the near future. Remember, coal is a solid fossil fuel which took millions of years to form.

If your company has a corporate sustainability initiative, let us help craft a unique energy solution that will help your business meet its sustainability goals. If you have any questions regarding sustainability, we will gladly help to answer them. You can contact Muirfield Energy’s corporate office at 888-370-8898, and we will have one of our local energy consultants speak to you. You may also contact us online to learn more.
